‘Twas the week before Thanksgiving…

If you’re new here, welcome — I’m so happy to have you. When I first started this column, I shared “Les Cinq” or “The Five,” and I’ve decided to carry that tradition into the new A in the Apple era with The Friday Five!

With Thanksgiving just a week away, Black Friday sales are officially starting to roll out. It’s so easy to get swept up in discount codes and feel like you need to snag everything — whether for family, friends, or let’s be honest, yourself. To keep myself focussed, I make a short list of things I actually need and try to stick to it so I don’t fall into the over-consumerism trap.

I hope this little approach helps — and that you spot something below that’s just right for gifting… or treating yourself.

  1. I am a believer in having a signature scent. Whether that is for your home or for yourself…I have been wearing Burberry Brit Perfume since I was 16… the Pura Smart Home Scent Diffuser helps me achieve just that. By pairing the device with your phone, you can set the scent and timing to create the perfect atmosphere. This Holiday Nostalgia gift set is on sale and is perfect for you or as a gift.

  2. November hit and so did the cold windy weather. With the change in seasons, my dry skin has reappeared. I have been a longtime fan of Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask and decided to give the Rich Cushion Cream a try. I can quickly say that I am a big fan and have been using morning and night. Just like the jet lag mask, a little goes a long way!

  3. Tis the season for coats! As a chronically cold person, I am always looking for winter coats that are warm, functional, and look the part. J. Crew has not let me down since I was a child and their coats are some of the best. I have had my Stadium Coat for almost 7 years and still reach for it first. I have the regular length but am considering upgrading to the long length. Right now, they are 40% off and today only, you can add an extra 15% off with code EXTRA.

  4. Since we moved into our new home, the first item on the needs list was a bed and bedding. My cousin recommended Quince Linen Bedding and I am extremely impressed by the quality. The price cannot be beat and the comfort is top notch.

  5. Finally, like most of us, I seem to be on a never-ending hunt for jeans that are flattering but also comfortable. This quest has had me searching high and low but I returned to my tried and true, Gap and have finally found a pair I love. The Gap Low Rise Long & Lean Jeans hit my waist at the perfect place (do not be scared by low rise!) and hold their fit all day long. I have been a long time lover of Gap Jeans - I once walked in a fashion show at Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa, OK for Gap because my mom and her friends worked there..but that is a story for another time. All that to say, I’m thrilled to see Gap returning to their classic, timeless denim styles — and these are officially my new go-to pair.
